Board Member Spotlight: Liz steig
At Queens Gambit, our board is made up of individuals who are deeply committed to creating opportunities, building community, and empowering the next generation, and Liz Stieg brings that mission to life every day.
As a Sports Manager with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western PA, Liz focuses on creating spaces where young people can build confidence, develop leadership skills, and feel a true sense of belonging. With a background in sports coaching and marketing, she is especially passionate about using athletics and mentorship to empower youth - particularly girls - to step into their full potential.
So what inspired her to join Queens Gambit?
“I joined the Queens Gambit board because I’m passionate about building community and creating opportunities for youth to grow. I’m excited to help shape programs and spaces where youth can develop confidence, leadership skills, and a strong sense of belonging.”
For Liz, chess is a powerful tool that extends far beyond the board.
“Chess helps youth develop critical thinking, focus, and decision-making skills that translate far beyond the board. It also creates a space where young people can build confidence, practice leadership, and realize their potential.”
Looking ahead, she’s excited about what’s possible for Queens Gambit’s future.
“I hope to see Queens Gambit continue to grow as a strong community where youth, especially girls, feel empowered to learn, lead, and challenge themselves. I’d love to see expanded programs and partnerships that bring chess and mentorship to even more young people.”
Fun fact. Liz made it to the second round of American Idol…and no, there’s no footage.
A community builder, mentor, and advocate for youth empowerment, Liz brings the kind of energy and purpose-driven leadership that helps Queens Gambit continue expanding its reach and impact.
