Empowering the Next Generation: Queens Gambit at Get Involved’s 98th Power Hour

On September 18, Queens Gambit was proud to take part in Get Involved! Inc.’s 98th Power Hour, a signature event in the organization’s long-running Power Hour Leadership Series - a program designed to spotlight changemakers and foster civic engagement across the Pittsburgh region.

Get Involved!, Inc. provides leadership and development programs that engage, educate, and empower students, young professionals, and lifelong learners to make a positive difference in their communities. Through a variety of events, workshops, and service initiatives, Get Involved! encourages participants to become civically engaged and lead with purpose.

This special Power Hour featured Queens Gambit youth instructors Luke Martin and Zach Werstil, along with Board Chair John Siminerio, who shared how chess is being used as a tool for leadership and transformation. From teaching youth across the city to building confidence through strategy, they discussed how Queens Gambit is helping young people think critically, lead boldly, and make moves that matter - both on and off the board.

The session - one of Get Involved’s youngest panels in history - sparked inspiring conversations about what leadership looks like today and how youth-led organizations are driving change in their communities.

A heartfelt thank-you to Tom Baker, Queens Gambit Board Member and Chair of Get Involved! Inc., for his continued partnership and commitment to amplifying youth leadership. His dedication to connecting service, strategy, and mentorship continues to shape the next generation of civic leaders across our region.

At Queens Gambit, we believe every move matters - and this Power Hour was a powerful reminder that when young leaders are given the tools and space to lead, they change the game for everyone.
