Strategic Moves in Action: A Recap of Popup! Chess and Our Community Reception

On Saturday, May 17, Queens Gambit proudly hosted our Strategic Moves Reception following a vibrant morning of Popup! Chess as part of Remake Learning Days. Held at the Pittsburgh Technology Council, the afternoon was filled with reflection, joy, and meaningful conversations — all centered around one mission: empowering youth through the strategic power of chess.

From powerful parent and student stories to a heartfelt fireside chat between Founder Ashley Lynn Priore and one of our inspiring youth instructors, the energy in the room was electric. We celebrated not just the growth of our programs, but the people who make it all possible.

Key highlights included:

  • A moving live giving moment led by longtime supporter and leader Audrey Russo

  • Public recognition of Luke Martin, one of our phenomenal instructors, whose dedication to our students is unmatched

  • A special thank you to Amy and the Martin family for their continuous advocacy and generosity

  • Gratitude to Marie Pelloni for hosting us at the Pittsburgh Technology Council and for her impactful service on our board

These moments remind us that while chess is the framework, community is the heartbeat. The young leaders in our programs are growing into critical thinkers, compassionate citizens, and bold decision-makers — because of you.

We’re deeply grateful to everyone who attended, supported, and helped bring this afternoon to life. If you weren’t able to make it, there’s still time to get involved and support our work as we continue building the next generation of changemakers.

Let’s keep making strategic moves — together.
